Twitter is for Twits

When it comes to stupid internet or gadget fads, this one absolutely takes the cake.
In short, Twitter (warning: clicking may cause extreme boredom) emerged onto the scene with one purpose: tell the world what you are doing right now. It’s not to make business connections. It’s not to find like-minded companions or to connect with friends of similar interests. Users sign on and ‘update’ the world on what they are doing at a particular moment by sporadically writing short sentences and phrases without having to think too much. Awesome, another way to tell everyone on the Internet what we are doing… we really needed one of those.
Twitter is useless.
Yet some of the 'big guns' - like Scoble and Rubel – who are giants in the blogosphere happen to be all over this. In fact, in the past two days, Rubel has written about or linked to Twitter five times. C’mon guys, are you kidding me?
Do people really care what/when you're eating? When you wake up, commute to work/school, etc… Not only is it disturbing for the people posting on Twitter, but there’s also something creepy about obsessively following someone’s posts. In essence, you are stalking them and tracking their every waking thought.
I see Twitter as a useless indulgence in our online world. Here’s an idea: instead of obsessing about what your friends are doing every second of the day and making sure that they know what you are up to – go out and actually do something.
I don’t know – ride a bike, go for a run, read a book…call me old fashion.
