Wilke, the WSJ and Nevada Conspiracy Theories
April 13th, 2007 by Sterling Hager
I've read some ridiculous stuff in my long life as a PR professional, but this takes the cake.
This is an item about the Governor of Nevada, a Republican, seen above to the left, accusing a Wall Street Journal reporter by the name of John Wilke, seen above to the right, of being on the take. The Governor, Jim Gibbons, says "…he's heard a rumor that Democrats paid the Wall Street Journal to publish stories about his relations with a defense contractor…"
Governor, I know John Wilke. John Wilke is a professional acquaintance of mine. And Governor, they don't get any better, any straighter than John Wilke. About the only thing you can pay the Wall Street Journal to give you is a copy of their paper or an ad. Note to readers: I'm politically atheistical… I don't believe anything any of them from either party say.
Governor, consider this: If you read The Journal, you have to have seen a ton of really, really rich people in hot water in hot type. Don't you think they would have bought their way off the page if that were possible?
