‘Silver’ Surfers Represent ‘Golden’ Opportunity
August 24th, 2007 by Sterling Hager
Adario Strange on the Wired Blog Network offered this item yesterday entitled, "Rise of the Silver Surfers: The Over-50 Social Media Opportunity." Coincidentally, Dave Cote and I were just talking the other day about possible social media sites that might be developed to appeal to the senior set.
My own computer literate father was born in 1911. Among other things, at 95, he buys and downloads music to his iPod. But he's not alone. Check out this comment — just one of several like it – posted at the end of Wired's story:
Over 55 here and my first web site is now 9 years old. My kids have no idea what FTP is or Web 2.0 and I introduced them to social networking sites. This weekend I went to wiki developer Socialtext seminar. My 20 year old has no idea what Second Life is. The older kids are also clueless. I cc from email to my blog. I am now developing ecourses for some of my sites to be delivered on my autoresponders - as well as the ebook I wrote years ago. I am beginning to "brand" myself and encouraging others to do the same. I am going to do live streaming internet TV and radio shows.
Got an idea for a site you think would appeal to the over-50 crowd?
