Do you need a blog?
August 28th, 2007 by Sterling Hager
Today, users, customers and employees expect to get information from anywhere and to work from everywhere in the world. From everywhere, they want everything.
That being said, you cannot use blogs in an overtly promotional way. Use them to augment your status in the industry by offering true thought leadership. Be transparent and real; don't utilize them as ‘just another’ marketing channel.
The question is not whether or not you need a blog. Instead, the question is how can you make your website more dynamic? How can you keep up a conversation with visitors that makes the website more interesting, conversational and less static? Frequently updated content helps any website – and a great way to do it easily is via a blog. You want need something on your website beyond mere brochure ware, something that indicates you and your employees are alive. Seek out leadership voices and get anyone within your organization to add content who is an enthusiastic communicator.
Online media is the future, and change will come. An overnight overhaul isn’t expected or advised, but gradual adaptation to this new world will be a prerequisite for success. These technologies will drive how organizations communicate with customers and business partners now and in the future. And for many companies, these technologies will determine whether or not they are in business in five years.
