Will You Be Late for 2008?
September 4th, 2007 by Sterling Hager
Happy September everyone. It should be a very busy final third of the year. At long last, many people agree that corporations are going to figure out they need a social media strategy in 2008. To wit, this post today from Jeff Pulver on The Jeff Pulver Blog. It is entitled, "What is YOUR Social Meda Strategy?" Good question, don't you think? This is perhaps the most relevant sentiment in his item:
While some companies will have a strategy in place, many won’t and those companies are at risk for being disrupted by an emerging medium if they take a pass and not engage their companies at this time.
In one of the comments, however, a reader reported on an incident at work that you might think would surprise me, but it doesn't:
I agree completely that companies need to start looking for the answer to this question. I had asked this of the VP I report to as well as the marketing group of the company and I got blank stares from everyone. They have not come to the understanding that 'social media' is not just for kids that are on myspace and that building a community of their employees and customers is the new evolution of business in this age.
Why does that not surprise me? Because I've been in that meeting 100-times over this year! In 2008, a lot of us in this business anticipate fewer of these "deer in the headlights" meetings. How about you? Will you be late for 2008?
By 2009 you could be out of time.
