Regional Bank’s Slogan an Accident?
January 8th, 2008 by Sterling Hager
Here in the Massachusetts region there's a bank called Strata. On my work today, outside the commuter rail station in Norfolk, I noted their billboard. It said something to the effect, "At Strata, you matter."
Ordinarily, I'd think that wasn't the greatest slogan or tag line I've ever seen for a bank. But around here, locals convert the 'er's and 'or's at the end of words like 'matter' and 'harbor' to 'ah' as in 'mattah' and 'harbah.' Therefore, Strata and Mattah rhyme. Was that intentional on their part? Don't know. But if it was, I give them credit for creating a slogan that takes a bit of a risk and is highly relevant to their regional audience.
