Regional Bank’s Slogan an Accident?

January 8th, 2008 by Sterling Hager

Here in the Massachusetts region there's a bank called Strata. On my work today, outside the commuter rail station in Norfolk, I noted their billboard. It said something to the effect, "At Strata, you matter."

Ordinarily, I'd think that wasn't the greatest slogan or tag line I've ever seen for a bank. But around here, locals convert the 'er's and 'or's at the end of words like 'matter' and 'harbor' to 'ah' as in 'mattah' and 'harbah.' Therefore, Strata and Mattah rhyme. Was that intentional on their part? Don't know. But if it was, I give them credit for creating a slogan that takes a bit of a risk and is highly relevant to their regional audience.

Marble and Granite Company Tagline

July 30th, 2007 by Sterling Hager

"We do marbelous work."

Saw that this morning on my way to work. It was on the side of an old panel truck. Someone had tried to remove the words, or else the company is long gone? Afterall, you can't take continued success for granite, right?

Great Tagline Seen From Highway

June 6th, 2007 by Sterling Hager

On the east-facing side of this company's billboard just off of Route 9 in Worcester, Massachusetts, this morning, en route to a client meeting, I saw this tagline: "Our concern for you is growing."

You'll never guess what they do. But here's a hint: the message on the west-facing side of this same billboard is, "Come do a shady deal with some seedy people."

The company: a plants and shrubs place called Shrewsbury Nurseries. Here's their website.

Sure, I know the lines could be used by any nursery… they don't differentiate this one over any of the others. But I think they are clever enough to work.

Again, you see some of the best of these from ordinary people with a good sense of humor or a unique way of looking at things.
